How we work

From the field to a certified bale.

Cotton Farsala unites over 150 producers around Farsala under one production protocol — so every step, from seed to certified fibre, is recorded and verifiable.

A cooperative built around the grower

We unite over 150 members farming the plain of Thessaly. Our work spans the whole of cotton growing, with a single aim: steadily improving the net result for our members — through scientific and financial support, lower production costs, secured deliveries and payments, and integrated quality systems.

How we work
Traceability

From field to certified bale.

How traceability works
01
Plant

Certified seed sown across registered fields each spring.

02
Grow

Soil, water and inputs logged per field for the season.

03
Harvest

Picked and weighed; each lot tagged at the field edge.

04
Gin & bale

Ginned locally; every bale gets a unique code.

05
Certify

Verified to EU standards and published to the ledger.

What the cooperative does

Concrete actions we've put in place for our members.

Contract farming

Early contracts that secure prices, delivery and payment for members.

Price linked to quality

Pricing tied to the quality characteristics of the seed-cotton collected.

Digitised fields

Mapping of plots and the collection, processing and evaluation of the quality of cultivated varieties.

Technical assistance

Agronomic support to members to safeguard product quality.

Lower input costs

Joint procurement and management of agricultural supplies to reduce cultivation costs.

Research & working groups

Participation in the Cotton Interprofessional Organization and applied agronomy trials, shared across the cooperative.

Certified, measured quality

In measurements of representative samples carried out with the National Cotton Centre, our cotton was classified as excellent quality across the standard HVI fibre metrics. We produce to recognised European standards (AGRO 2), with EUcotton and Better Cotton among our reference frameworks.
